Kaalmo Community Welfare is dedicated to improving the lives of vulnerable communities in Somalia by providing critical support in areas such as clean water access, healthcare, and education. Our mission is to serve the most underserved rural populations, ensuring they have the resources they need to thrive and build a better future.

Our Impact: Water Distribution Efforts in Kismayo Municipality

In response to the ongoing water scarcity crisis in Somalia, Kaalmo Community Welfare recently spearheaded a significant water distribution initiative in Kismayo Municipality, focusing on six rural areas: Shabelley, Koron Usle, Basro, Barkada Sharifada, Turqato, and Caligabow. These areas, which have long struggled with access to clean and safe drinking water, were severely impacted by the region's prolonged drought and poor infrastructure.

Thanks to the generous donations from the Somali diaspora, Kaalmo was able to deploy 10 water tankers, serving 2,840 households across these six rural communities. This intervention has significantly improved the quality of life for residents, providing them with reliable access to water during a critical period.

Areas Served:

- Shabelley: 430 households
- Koron Usle: 480 households
- Basro: 250 households
- Barkada Sharifada: 400 households
- Turqato: 500 households
- Caligabow: 300 households

These water deliveries helped alleviate severe water shortages, improve sanitation, and reduce the risk of waterborne diseases, which are a major concern in water-scarce regions. The communities served are now better equipped to face the challenges of the dry season, with clean water available for both personal consumption and agricultural needs.

Challenges We Face 
Despite our success, many challenges remain. Rural areas like those in Kismayo Municipality are difficult to access due to poor road conditions, vast distances, and harsh terrain. This makes distribution efforts costly and logistically complex. In addition, many communities lack sufficient water storage infrastructure, which can make it difficult to store the water for use during dry periods.

Our Plans for the Future  
Kaalmo Community Welfare is committed to continuing its efforts in improving water access across Somalia. We have already started plans for further distributions to reach additional communities in need. Our ongoing projects include:

• Improving Water Storage Solutions: We are focused on providing communities with the tools and infrastructure they need to store water safely and efficiently.
• Building Sustainable Water Sources: Kaalmo aims to establish sustainable water sources such as wells, boreholes, and water pumps in remote areas to reduce the dependency on tanker deliveries.
• Education and Awareness: We will continue educating communities on water conservation, safe storage practices, and hygiene to promote long-term water security.
